On April 14th, racing enthusiasts in and around Raleigh will want to head over to the Cary Towne Center for an all-day autocross racing event! Hosted by the Tarheel Sport Car Club, the THSCC Points Autocross #2 is fun for both spectators and racers alike.

What Is Autocross Racing?

Import Vehicle Service in RaleighUnlike most competitive racing sports, autocross is not about beating other racers at once, it’s about beating the clock on a precision-testing course. A course is designed or laid out, typically in a large, open parking lot or unused airstrip. Orange road cones mark the course, and to check for cone movement, each one is outlined in chalk so it’s clear to see where the original placement of the cone was.

Each driver takes to the track individually with the goal of getting the fastest time while maneuvering the course cleanly. If a driver hits a cone or misses a section of the course, he or she may get a time penalty.

What Kinds of Vehicles Will Be Racing?

At the THSCC Points Autocross #2, all types of vehicles will be represented! Unlike many racing events, autocross allows virtually every car, from stock street vehicles to open-wheeled Formula-style race cars. For safety, vehicles with a roll-over risk like SUVs, pickup trucks, and minivans are not allowed on autocross tracks. Otherwise, from Fiats, BMWs, Ferraris, and everything in between may be racing!

It is important to know that if you plan on racing, your must pass a tech inspection and should meet the following guidelines:

  • No cord should be showing on your tires
  • There should be no leaks or strange noises
  • Brakes, exhaust, and suspension should all be in excellent working order
  • Battery isn’t loose
